I couldn't recommend that CS4 be run on the newest Mac OS X versions. For most people it's not possible to do such an update. Yosemite (10.9) and El Capitan (10.10) are not supported for older operating systems.
If you want to install the newest operating systems you need to be prepared to pay for a subscription to Creative Cloud versions of your applications.
