The thread you are replying to is 4 years old. What you're saying may be the problem in a few cases, but raw files can be copied from an SD card to a hard drive using Finder as well as with LR and the EOS Utility is not required. I don't know what your particular issue is, but using the EOS Utility is not a universal answer and certainly shouldn't be a reply to every thread that has something to do with raw files not working.
