While disabling Protected Mode is not really a "solution" per se; Protected Mode itself causes so many different problems that disabling it is the best way of protecting you against all these problems. It has been like that since Reader X, and it seems that nothing is going to change in this area.
The interesting thing is that this occurs only on certain systems; none of mine have ever been affected.
